Gary H.....When you refer to "gas" are you talking about natural gas or gasoline? We have a "Fairbanks Morse" diesel for some electrical generation. It's called "Dougy" for short..as in Douglas Fairbanks.
Nine cylinder..inline....eighteen pistons on two crankshafts...one at top and one at bottom...two pistons per cylinder opposed. Turbocharger and supercharger......Engine is about 7ft. in height. What a monster!! Used on submarines by U.S in WWII for propulsion and still used on new submarines but for electrical backup. Used to run "dual fuel"..which was great since we flare off lots of gas to atmosphere.
But we had hard time controlling natural gas "liquids" entering the cylinders so poor "Dougy" had major detonation problem. To many holes in to many pistons resulted in us going to straight diesel.
Sorry for all this B.S....just bored...boss has gone to bed and I'm on watch all night long............raisin
