I have lived 17 years in Mich, 4 yrs in Ala, 20 yrs in Seattle, 27 yrs in Calif, and 4 years in Texas. And a few more, but....
There are some very good reasons why Dell can be THE low cost producer in Texas.
1. My total building permits cost $110 ( in CA city would be min $30K)
2. A/C power to house (480 feet) was ~$110 but cost was waived because they were one day late.
3. Registration and licensing of two out of state diesel vehicles
plus two drivers licenses a bit over $100. In Ca there would be a tax of $300 per diesel on top of the regular costs.
4. Vehicle inspection (smog)per year about $11.
' 5. No state income tax.
6. For the price of one CA city building lot you could buy 40 acres here. Water from a well (900 gallons per hour) costs only for the power or about 6 cents per 900 gal.
7. Beyond my West fence is over 5000 acres or ten square miles of
of vacant land containing about 85 cattle, plus deer, turkeys,
quail, raccoons, and other assorted nature items.(and several gas wells)
8. But most important, all skyrockets, firecrackers, lady fingers, shells, mortars,flares, roman candles, pinwheels that meet Fed laws are legal in this county.
Summary.
George W. Bush will understand the need and keen desire for fewer taxes,less regulation and less interference with personal freedoms.
