SHGLaw - How many portals are too many? IMHO, as long as there is even a slight difference between individual portals there is room for several.

Because of personal tastes, biases, preferences, etc., people will never migrate to one spot. With all of the marketing, force feeding, market share, and influence of Microsoft, there are still those who go for a Mac, or Linus, or Netscape, or whatever else there is out there just to use something different from Microsoft products. We should all be driving a Chevrolet, Ford, Chrysler, Volvo, Honda, Volkswagon; there is a car ou there for everyone.

I have not tried too many portals. Microsoft, Yahoo, Lycos, and a few others. But when I go out looking for a new one (so far) I always go back to Snap.Com (not even mentioned as one of the biggies) because there are things it does that are important to me that it does better than Yahoo and the others.

I first learned about Snap when it was included on a US Robotics CD. Since then my influence has caused at least at least 5 others to use Snap.

In conclusion, as long as CMGi's portal has its own personality, and is marketed to a wide audience it should do well.

Jim (sorry for rambling on here).
