Hi John :o)
I know you had planned to sleep comfortably to $85, but figured it was worth waking you early to clarify some recent miscommunication I noticed on the thread.
newsalert.com
This sure looks good!!! Unfortunately ... this has nothing to do with Semtech (our SMTC), but rather relates to SMTC, Inc. which is involved in contract manufacturing PCBs, system builds, and warranty fulfillment/repairs. Similar to a Solectron ... albeit a little less worthy :o)
I could never imagine Semtech straying this far from its strategic mission to provide highly sophisticated communication, power management, and other critical analog components.
I could see Semtech doing research and development into semiconductor designs, products, and technology that will drastically alter the way we process analog information. Digital to Analog Conversion (DAC) and Analog to Digital Conversion (ADC) are both slow processes, and lead to signal/data loss. When a CD sounds tinny, many times it's the conversion process "distorting" the original signal.
Power management and communications may currently be Semtech's primary core business, but I expect that within 10 years, this remarkable company will emerge as a leading player in the microprocessor arena.
If anyone ever wonders why Semtech is so dynamic, just remember who runs this company. Mr. Poe has been involved in the semiconductor industry all the WAY back to the Fairchild days, a company with bragging rights to being one of the most important cradles for all of modern electronics (that is as long as you consider Intel, just one offshoot of Fairchild, as being an important player in the arena).
I wish I hadn't sold, all I can say is that I WILL be buying it back, and in much larger quantity when I do. There is just TWO things a shareholder would not want to hear:
1. Mr. Poe is leaving 2. Someone is buying the company
Other than that ... IT'S ALL GOOD!!!
Regards, JB
P.S. I forgot who it was, but someone was giving me a bad time at the beginning of the year because I thought SMTC would be able to justify a higher than normal PE because they were becoming a clear industry leader. All I can say is that I was right, and you were wrong ... neener neener neener :o)
Of course, if you held, you could send it right back! |
