Yup maybe SI. Guess what? SI is owned by a portal!

The mere fact that we cannot come up with a good example of a possible highly successful "destination" site means maybe the portal concept is not that far off.

In general I expect that the final structure of the net will be conglomerates of seperate sites under the roof of a few larger companies. Lycos is a good example. Yahoo owning geocities and broadcast.com another. CMGI will probably do the same sort of thing with Altavista.

So far it seems like Excite has not been heading in this direction, but thats ok by me. I'd rather not have more dilution.
