Most of the information that I have about Oracle comes straight from it's web pages. It is the Oracle8iLite that is the mobile application manager. oracle.com
If you read some of the specific industry uses of this you realize that everything is centered around the database. That makes sense, databases are Oracle's bread and butter. If a company's main problem is having trouble handling a database, getting information into it, storing it, and getting information out in a productive way ( and they don't mind having everything depend on one vendor solution) maybe they should be looking at Oracle.
Citrix is really trying to answer a different problem. Some companies may have a business very dependent on a database, but others may have a business where the data base is less critical. As CTXS sees it the target company is one that already has many computer programs that are working OK in their client server setup, but it costs too much, they can't find qualified people to handle problems in their scattered branches, employees keep introducing viruses in the system, constant software upgrades mean people are using different partially incompatible versions, etc, etc. The fact that CTXS is thin client isn't important in itself, it's just a means to an end. That end is a system that has more security, more controls , easier to administer, and most importantly has lower total costs of ownership. It still allows the company to use the multi vendor programs they already know how to use, and keeps training costs to a minimum.
As far as the "Java/HTML push just getting started", it's really hard to evaluate something that doesn't exist so I have no comment.
Scalability in a client server can be accomplished by an expansion of both elements, the ratio dependent on several factors. Neither thin or fat are less scalable, they just might have to scale in different ratios.
I agree that the conclusions of the author of the networkcomputing.com article are unrelated to fact - they may be an attempt to be "cool" since the www is the topic de jure.
All of what we have been discussing may be irrelevant. As stockholders our main question should be "can Citrix show enough earnings ramp up over the next year to justify a lot higher price?" IMHO, I think the answer is probably yes.
