Casaubon.. its healthy to let your imagination wander. If you don't explore a little you'll never know where you are. Regarding some of the fun being had this morning, much of it is being done. I've helped with some black box designs that trade on autopilot for 1/8ths of a point.. in and out, in and out... you'd think you were watching a re-run of the Starr report. The price of everything, unless its fixed by law, varries by supply and demand. Its as much a psychological reality as it is one of mechanical relationships no matter how sophisticated the science of economics charts the bits and pieces. Traders thrive on any mechanism or tool that moves their perception of potential future events closer to what's about to happen, while simultaneously doing everything they can to reduce or manipulate risk in their favor. Its as much a game between and against one another as it is one of responding to simple observation. To push the envelope of investing fantasy, one can imagine we'll eventually have news response analysis-emotive sensors plugged directly into our wealth, with many pre-configured programs that interact (play the game) with "the market" that trades 24 hours a day. Actually, much of it is already in place and operational.. we turn on the news which tells us that Japan's reaction to our close, which was a reaction to their open, is influencing the EU markets that are pushing US futures higher or lower before they open. Before you and I can trade, the first ten minutes have already happened. Where's the chicken and where's the egg and who's the yokle? As Huxley said, its a brave new world. Jim
