"She must want something from the top shelf, but refuses to tell me what. "

Thanks for the Dean Koontz titles...will check them out as time allows.

Regarding Meyers: According to Peaches, cats do not comprehend the concept of communicating intentions -- their language has no future tense (nor any past tense, but that is the subject of another post).

While discussing this with Peaches he was incredulous that one would waste time speaking of what one will do or intends to do...his comment was "why not just do it." Which explains why he likes Nike commercials so much.

This makes a lot of sense when you consider how long the words are in Cat language. Even though they communicate telepathically, and therefore at the speed of light, it would still take them longer to say what they want to do than it would take to do it. Thus Meyers does not know how to tell you what he is trying to accomplish. Peaches' logic here is irrefutable.

My guess is not that there is something he wants that is "up there," but that he is climbing the bookcase "because it is there." This is the explanation that answers most of the questions regarding cat behavior. Also, for cats, being up high is a safety and security issue.

Which explains why Peaches' favorite riding place is wrapped around his pet human's neck, like a fox stole.
