If that's the case, then you might as well say they're the only ones who can vote!

Who then, in your view, does have the right to an opinion on this issue? Anyone who served in any capacity or just those who served in combat? If it's only those who served in combat, you just eliminated George W! If it's anyone who served in any capacity (such as in the National Guard) are you then going to consider how they got such an "out" to further pare down the list of criteria?

Women weren't combat fighters back then. Does that mean I, as a woman, don't have the right to an opinion on this issue? Or the right to vote with respect to an opinion on this being a factor?

Pretty narrow-minded. To put it mildly.
