Carl, <<How about closed end bond funds? Any suggestions in that area?>> Yes. Check out MFS Charter Income Trust (MCR). It has some foriegn debt, but uses no leverage and has an average credit quality of A. It is currently yielding OVER 9% and, of course, pays monthly if you want the income.
