I normally watch PAIR but thought this News Headline may be useful here...ALCATEL WINS CONTRACT FROM BRITISH TELECOM TO PROVIDE ADSL EQUIPMENT

I haven't seen this on the news wires yet, however. I'll look.

I just found it:

BT in digital equipment supply deal

LONDON, July 5 (Reuters) - British Telecommunications Plc said on Monday it had agreed a multi-million pound order for asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) equipment with Japan's Fujitsu and French telecom equipment firm Alcatel .

The equipment is to be supplied between now and next spring to 400 exchanges around Britain, covering nearly six million households and businesses.

ADSL can boost transmission speeds of existing local copper telephone lines by using electronics at the exchange and at customers premises, without digging up streets and pavements.

It enables ordinary telephone lines to become high-speed digital channels to the Internet and multi-media services at up to 10
times the speed achieved across normal telephone lines.

All the best,
Michael
