PHILADELPHIA, March 21 /PRNewswire/ -- West Coast Entertainment Corp announced today that it will participate in the historic launch of DVD in 57 stores in the New Jersey and New York markets. Participating stores include select locations within the Palmer Video, Super Video, Great American Video and Video Video chains. The stores will begin selling and renting the initial set of titles beginning on Tuesday, March 25, at approximately 10:00 A.M.

West Coast is joining forces with its launch partners, Warner Home Video and Toshiba to introduce the new digital video technology to hundreds of thousands of its customers who live in the New York City and Northern New Jersey area. Commenting on the launch, West Coast Entertainment Chairman Ralph Standley says, "We're extremely excited to be part of the initial roll out of DVD in the United States in one of our most important markets. DVD technology appears to be the perfect new technology to increase the enjoyment of watching movies at home."

West Coast stores will be stocking both the software titles for rental and sale.

The initial sell-through price points of the titles will be $24.99 each. Rentals will be priced at the standard new release price point. West Coast stores will be stocked with between 200 and 400 units depending on store size and floor traffic.

Stores will be also carrying hardware units for rental. The rental units, which are the Toshiba SD2006 players, will be rented for $24.99 for the standard two night rental period.

Product will be merchandised on a specially designed DVD fixture, and stores will also feature in-store hardware demonstrations.

Titles for rent and sale at the initial West Coast launch will include: Batman, The Birdcage, Bladerunner: The Director's Cut, The Bodyguard, Bonnie and Clyde, The Color Purple, Eraser, The Exorcist, Get Shorty, The Fugitive, The Glimmer Man, GoldenEye, Goodfellas, JFK: Special Edition Director's Cut, Lethal Weapon, The Mask, Midnight Cowboy, Mortal Kombat, Poltergeist, Raging Bull, Rainman, The Road Warrior, Rocky, Seven, Singin' in the Rain, Space Jam, Species, A Streetcar Named Desire: The Director's Cut, A Time To Kill, Twister, Unforgiven and The Wizard of Oz.

The DVD launch is being supported by significant TV advertising, especially around the Academy Award broadcast on Monday evening, March 24, plus niche market campaigns in metropolitan markets including New York.
