I see so many wide open shots being taken in the NBA game.

Steve Kerr didn't get one good look all playoffs. He had to be taken off the floor because he was a defensive liability and couldn't get a good look on offense. He would have been a decent player 15 years ago. Instead, he has had a terrible career, disguised by some good camera time shining Jordan's shoes. Even the Bulls were phasing him out almost as soon as they signed him, because Ron Harper had a big impact on D. They didn't care about Harper's vanishing act on offense.

Defenses are rotating as fast as the ball. These rotations did not occur in the old days. The main penalty for rotation is the mismatches it creates, but teams have discovered that the 24-second shot clock does not allow time to exploit them.

The Pistons ... defense is really no different than other teams

The challenge was to double Jordan without getting killed by the open man. They did it. Really, though, as I said in my previous post, the techniques were not innovated by them. It was Don Nelson who conceived of the techniques to play a disguised zone. The Pistons were more important in popularizing the philosophy of winning with defense.
