I am awaiting the final recommendations of the SDMI. I am not sure that "bonding" is an accurate term. I believe you are referring to the fact that the serialization features of the storage medium will somehow be used in the encryption of the downloaded content. This suggests that the "legally" obtained content can only be written and re-written to a unique storage vehicle (flash card, microdrive, Clik! diskette, etc.) This would seem to be an unnecessarily complicated scheme.

I am awaiting the final SDMI specifications and it will no longer be a mystery. Until then, I hope that either the hardware (player) or the OS will contain the encryption function and the storage media will remain unencumbered.

In the meantime, all devices can play standard mp3 formats.
