Thanks for the help PW - I followed your advice. Then I got to scan disk and defrag and found that they no longer work through windows or from DOS. I got an error message from DOS:

Error Defragmenting Drive C:
Windows cannot defragment this drive.
Make sure the disk is formatted and free of errors. Then try
defragmenting the disk again.

ID NO. DEFRAG0026

There were no error messages from scan disk.

I called up the system monitor but didn't know how to interpret the charts or numbers. It did say that the physical memory available to windows was 15840 KB and that system resources were 85% free.

I have no idea how to fix scandisk and defrag.
