Thanks for highlighting the true spelling of "fibre" in the term "Fibre Channel." But FC is, indeed, just as much (if not more so) an optical standard as it is for some variants of the standard that define its use over copper channels.

Due to its maturity at this stage, and the extensive ANSI work that was done in the fibre channel development stages, many of FC's components have also been re-used as the basic building blocks for other fiber- and copper- based transports, as well, such as Gigabit Ethernet (GbE).
