Establishes Rambus DRAM Third
Party Validation Lab and Test
Services
FREMONT, Calif., July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- SMART Modular Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMOD
- news) announced today the establishment of its independent Rambus® DRAM Third Party
Validation Lab and Test services. As an RDRAM® validation test lab, SMART will perform
independent characterization testing and validation of Rambus DRAM components, which must meet
critical high-performance specifications. The objective of the program is to enable a smooth and
rapid integration of Rambus-based systems.
By providing RDRAM Validation Test Services, SMART is acting as an outsource testing company
for OEMs. Rather than adding internal resources for RDRAM device testing, OEMs can now look
to SMART to provide this service. ''SMART's engineers have worked closely with the enabling
groups at Rambus and Intel to complete the RDRAM correlation process,'' stated Keith McDonald,

cutting-edge testing equipment including the industry's most advanced RIMM(TM) module tester,
the HP95000, impedance control measurement equipment and high speed test handlers to support
high volume RIMM module production testing. Utilizing its expertise in RIMM module
manufacturing, SMART is building high-quality, high-performance RIMM modules using only 100%
validated components. The Validation Program, along with the equipment acquisitions, are part of a
multi-million dollar investment strategy, thus furthering SMART's goal to become one of the
industry's leading Rambus RIMM module suppliers.
