Business Wire - July 06, 1999 08:44

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 6, 1999--

Internet Hub and Web-Based Application Provider BidCom Partners with

Digital Island to Strategically Expand into Asia and Europe

Digital Island, Inc. (NASDAQ: ISLD), a leading provider of network services for globalizing
e-Business applications, announced today BidCom, Inc. as a customer in a strategic relationship that
will enable the pioneer of online outsourcing services for the building industry to rapidly reach new
markets worldwide.

BidCom will use Digital Island to deploy in-Site(TM), its business-to-business Internet-based
application in the U.S as well as into key new markets in Europe and Asia. in-Site is available only on
the Internet as an outsourced service that supports all participants of a building project throughout its
entire lifecycle. BidCom customers include Federated Department Stores, Swinerton & Wahlberg
Builders, Sun Microsystems, and The Gap.

"Our customers rely on our service to be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week from any
remote location," said Daryl Magana, president and CEO of BidCom. "With Digital Island, we can
reliably and securely extend our service and our new e-commerce business hub to customers globally."

"BidCom's in-Site represents the next generation of Internet-outsourced applications whose success
rests on innovation and providing the best possible end-user experience," said Ruann F. Ernst,
president and CEO of Digital Island. "Digital Island's outsourcing services enable companies such as
BidCom to accelerate time to market worldwide."

In addition to supporting BidCom's in-Site application, Digital Island also plans to support BidCom's
new e-commerce and content business hub (www.buildinsite.com), which is scheduled to go live in the
third quarter of 1999. BidCom's business hub is expected to serve as the building industry's central
location for exchanging information, accessing industry news and engaging in real-time e-commerce
transactions. The hub's services will include immediate access to new project opportunities, real-time
bidding on projects, a service to aid in the estimation of project costs, and an in-Site-based
communication and collaboration service for the review and approval of documents, budgets and plans
by team members that are distributed across the globe.

BidCom (http://www.bidcom.com) is the building industry's first Internet hub and web-based
application provider. BidCom develops and markets in-Site, a business-to-business application
designed to enable companies to manage risk, drive down costs and complete projects on time.
Delivered as an Internet-outsourced service, in-Site is uniquely designed to support all participants of a
building project, throughout the entire project lifecycle. in-Site allows communication and
collaboration, document and file management, and business process management in a flexible, highly
secure environment. BidCom is creating the virtual marketplace for the building industry.
Headquartered in San Francisco, Calif., with offices in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco,
BidCom is sold direct through a worldwide sales force on a per-project, per-person basis. BidCom is
privately held and has received venture financing from Internet Capital Group, Partech International
