Smith Micro Introduces Version 4.0 of HotFax MessageCenter
New Enhancements Make HotFax MessageCenter a Personal Office Manager for Fax, Voice Mail and Paging

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Smith Micro Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMSI - news) today introduced a new enhanced version of its popular HotFax® MessageCenter communications software. The additions included in version 4.0 enhance HotFax MessageCenter's capability to function as a personal office manager for voice mail, fax, and paging.

Smith Micro's HotFax MessageCenter transforms a PC and modem into a virtual communications center. Whether at home, in the office, or on the road, users can customize cover pages and send faxes with ease, add high-tech telephone capabilities to their computers, and also remotely access their PCs for the retrieval of faxes, files and voice mail. With the versatile HotFax MessageCenter, users can even link their pagers to their PCs to ensure they're always in touch, send voice e-mail over the Internet, and much more.

''Our earlier version of HotFax MessageCenter was a great success, and was hailed by Entrepreneur magazine as superior to WinFax Pro 9.0, receiving an excellent rating. We have solicited user input, and based on what we learned have created a communications solution which acts as a 'personal office manager' bringing sophisticated voice, faxing, and paging capabilities to the small office/home office user. Smith Micro is committed to providing the best in communications software to the small office/home office user, and with an estimated street price of $59.95 HotFax MessageCenter can easily fit into the budget of almost any SOHO user,'' said William W. Smith Jr., President and CEO of Smith Micro.

HotFax MessageCenter 4.0 supports the inbound/outbound fax, paging, voice and data communications features of earlier versions of the product plus:

* Multiple Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs). Choose from three new easy-
to-use GUIs for customizing when using HotFax MessageCenter.
* HotFax MessageCenter Tray Application Support. Users can automatically
be ready for voice, fax and data calls without being required to launch
the HotFax MessageCenter main application.
* Improved Send Fax User Interface. With the new Fax Merge feature, users
can save time and transmission costs by merging separate faxes together
into a single fax.
* Microsoft® Exchange/Outlook Phone Book Support. Users can now use
their existing Microsoft Exchange/Outlook phone books instead of
setting up a separate phone book in HotFax MessageCenter.
* ScanSoft TextBridge® OCR Software. HotFax MessageCenter now ships
with the ScanSoft TextBridge OCR (Optical Character Recognition)
program which converts received fax documents into text word processing
documents.
* Easy Internet Registration. You can now easily register your HotFax
MessageCenter software over the Internet during the installation
process.

HotFax MessageCenter supports the Windows 95/98 and NT operating systems. Priced at $59.95, HotFax MessageCenter 4.0 will be available at most online stores mid-July and at major retailers nationwide later in the month.
