Division of SMART Modular Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:SMOD) today
announced the availability of its Rapid Transit(TM) 56kbps ISA Card
Data/Fax modem.

Designed for use with Pentium-powered computers, the Rapid
Transit(TM) 56kbps ISA Card Data/Fax modem provides the industry's
fastest data transfer rate over ordinary telephone lines.

The Apex Data Rapid Transit(TM) 56kbps ISA Card Data/Fax modem
incorporates K56flex technology to ensure maximum capability with
leading Internet service providers and with other modem users. The
Card also offers enhanced DSVD and V.80 support, full function
telephone answering machine capabilities and duplex speaker phone
for optimal communications functionality.

The Rapid Transit(TM) ISA Card features software upgradeability
to future 56k standards, and is available through Apex Data
distribution channels, including: Ingram Micro, Tech Data, PC
Compleat and Mobile Planet, at an estimated street price of $140.
SMART anticipates availability in April 1997. Customers can call

The Rapid Transit(TM) 56kbps ISA Card Data/Fax modem is
thoroughly tested with the most popular fax and communications
packages and is CCITT Group III compatible so faxes can be sent
directly from an application or scheduled at a later time.

The product's Advanced Error Correction with V.42 protocol
facilities safe, clear transmissions and automatically detects and
connects at the highest data rate and communications standard to
match the remote modem. It complies with all industry standards,
operates under Windows 95 and Windows NT and features Plug & Play
support.

Additionally, it is in full compliance with the V.34 standard to
assure complete compatibility with all other V.34 modems.
