Paul,

Despite the bad rap that Soros and others like him received, they may actually be doing the world a service by forcing reforms in target countries.

I seriously doubt that Soros give a hoot as to what consequences his action has on the people of Indonesia or Thailand. Though I am an US Citizen, I have yet to attain know-it-all status so I don't know if these "reforms" we forced upon other nations are any good. Afterall, we did a great job in the Philipines, Iran, Vietnam .....

As for Indonesia, I have previously stated that I found the Indonesians, especially the Balinese, the warmest people I have ever encountered in my travel (even though my chinese origin is not welcome there now). I am saddened to see their country in such sad shape and Suharto certainly has to bear some responsibility. Unfortunately, I don't know of any country that has ever switched from dictatorship to full democracy over night. As for "reforms", I think I will not look toward the US for an answer, unless they want to be just a puppet and live of US aid forever.
