The Volcker statement was an attempt to reassure the market since the FED had lost all credibility. They can announce anything they want, but it is their actions we will judge and we judge by sending bonds down and gold up. Consider why Volcker made that announcement. The FED was trying to do the right thing. Since 1982 they have been slowly trying to do the wrong thing and in 1995 they had achieved complete success. The country and the world will have hell to pay, but the people will blame every unknown thing rather than accuse the creator of prosperity. We had our chance and we lost.
