The Discover Canada Web site (www.discovercanada.com) was successfully
launched July 1, 1999, by Realm Group Inc. The new Web site has been
completely redesigned and reprogrammed and features five new travel
partners offering dozens of new travel packages as well as Discover Canada
Radio, a streaming audio show.
Discover Canada offers a unique on-line travel service. Like most Internet
travel services, travellers can book their vacation on-line after viewing
the concise Best of Canada information offered on the Discover Canada Web
site. Unlike other Internet travel services, Discover Canada offers the
Discover Canada Travel Desk, part of the American Express Global Travel
Network, which provides comprehensive booking services. The Travel Desk, a
partnership with Seven Seas Travel Ltd., an American Express travel
representative, is a professionally staffed call centre that specializes in
Discover Canada Travel Partner packages. This feature offers travellers the
opportunity to speak with an experienced travel consultant who can provide
expert Canadian destination travel advice. Travellers may then book their
vacation either through the Travel Desk or on-line.
Joining the popular Rocky Mountaineer Railtours in the Discover Canada
Travel Partner program are Princess Cruises, Signature Vacations, Resort
Vacations, Mike Wiegele Heli-Skiing and Tamwood International Language
Schools. These travel partners offer premier travel packages in the key
areas of rail tours, Alaska cruises, golf, adventure, eco-touring, skiing,
and English-as-a-second-language training - all major segments of the
Canadian destination travel market where total 1998 Canadian tourism
expenditures exceeded $47-billion buoyed by double digit growth from U.S.
visitors (Statistics Canada March 29, 1999). Additional travel packages are
expected to be added on a continuing basis.
The redesigned Discover Canada Web site has been developed by Realm Group
in conjunction with Seven Seas through financing largely provided by
Cambridge to market premier Canadian destination travel packages. Cambridge
Ventures maintains the right to earn a 49-per-cent interest in Discover
Canada from Realm Group and expects to complete its vesting imminently by
making cash payments totalling $50,000 and issuing 500,000 common shares.
