It's easy to get overwhelmed by the world. I'm not sure it's ever been very different if one looked closely enough but nowadays it's right in our faces no matter where we live. I avoid the evening news, too. Sometimes I don't read at all, then devour everything I can find on what's up in the world. Like it matters, though I tell myself it does. Spending time reading hate-sites can really curl your toes. Except for my silly, martial-arts movies, I avoid almost all movies with much violence or emotionally-devoid people. Heck, they're all around and I don't like them, why watch a movie with them in it? I'm sorry to hear about your father. In Jr. High, a friend of mine's father was murdered by a business partner, plus it turned out the "business" was not all it seemed. It was very devastating for her to not only lose him, but have the talk about him going around.
