I think you are missing something... we are looking at a totally new paradigm... the possibility that your portable MP3 player will have either USB or Firewire I/O for direct plug-in playability to your USB/Firewire Car Stereo. Or to your computer... or to even your home stereo with a USB port. (USB ports are dirt cheap to include). You can take your MP3 music player everywhere- after all, it is VERY tiny since it uses Sandisk CompactFlash or MultiMediaCard and uses VERY little power. Iomega Flop! would just make it bulky and battery-consuming.

Don't count out Music retail stores just yet. CD is still entrenched. And, DVD-Audio is debuting this Christmas. The higher-end market will jump on this... 6 discrete channels of 96k 24 bit sound (including subwoofer channel) ...I've heard some preliminary DVD-Audio disks...sounds like God's own voice. It is amazingly better than CD (and a whole world away from Mp3). DVD-Audio players will become available for this Christmas Season. **All DVD-Movie players sold up until now CANNOT play DVD-Audio disks.
