Understanding Semiconductor Stocks And Key Investment Drivers Focus Of Informed Investors' Events July 9-10

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 6, 1999--Individual investors investigating semiconductor stocks have a doubleheader at their disposal Friday evening and Saturday morning, July 9-10 in Silicon Valley -- first, to learn about the underpinnings of the semiconductor industry, and second, to assess the investment potential of stocks in the industry.

On Friday at 7 p.m. at Hyatt Rickey's in Palo Alto, Informed Investors Forum and INFRASTRUCTURE (www.infras.com) will co-host a seminar "Investing in Semiconductor Manufacturing" designed to give investors a more detailed look at industry trends and issues. The cost is $25.

INFRASTRUCTURE principals Ron Leckie and Carl Johnson have several decades' experience in the semiconductor industry. Their INFRASTRUCTURE model portfolio is up more than 40% thus far in 1999 and ahead more than 110% since the lows of September, 1998.

Companies INFRASTRUCTURE tracks closely include: Applied Materials (Nasdaq:AMAT); ASM Lithography (Nasdaq:ASMLF); Cymer (Nasdaq:CYMI); Dupont Photomask (Nasdaq:DPMI); FSI International (Nasdaq:FSII); KLA-Tencor (Nasdaq:KLAC); Novellus Systems (Nasdaq:NVLS); PRI Automation (Nasdaq:PRIA); and Teradyne (NYSE:TER).

On Saturday morning, July 10, the Fourth Annual Informed Investors Silicon Valley Semiconductor Stocks Forum will provide views on the investment considerations of semiconductor chip and capital equipment companies. The Forum will run from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Cost is $25 prepaid. To register for either event, go to www.informedinvestors.com or call 800/992-4683.

"This is our annual update on this critical industry," said Tim Quast, Chief Operating Officer of Informed Investors Forum, event organizer. "Silicon Valley is the unquestioned driver of the worldwide technology boom of the 1990s and the fast-evolving semiconductor industry is at the heart of Silicon Valley."

Companies presenting are 3Dlabs (Nasdaq:TDDD) and ATMI (Nasdaq:ATMI). 3Dlabs is a leading supplier of integrated hardware and software graphics accelerator solutions for workstations and design professionals. ATMI provides products and services for semiconductor device manufacture through its Materials and Technologies units.

Keynote speakers at Saturday's Forum are Theodore O'Neill, semiconductor capital equipment analyst at Needham & Co., and Charles Boucher, semiconductor analyst at Donaldson Lufkin Jenrette.

O'Neill's special areas of interest include wafer preparation, factory automation, materials and flat panel displays. He studied electrical engineering and finance at Northeastern University, University of New Hampshire, New Hampshire College, New England College, New Hampshire Technical Institute and the Indiana University Graduate School of Business. He holds AE, BA and MBA degrees.

Boucher specializes in chip companies. Prior to DLJ, Boucher held analyst positions at UBS Securities, Hambrecht & Quist and Dataquest.
