We have stumbled into the heart and essence of the difference between our two faiths. We believe that God being perfect can accept nothing less that perfection in his presence. No human that has ever lived has been able to achieve perfection on his own and none ever will. Accepting God's sacrifice of His Son Jesus, covers our sins and eventually will allow us to enter into total communion with God.
