While you out there in China, stop off in Australia and check out Telstra's ADSL trials:

From there go: Products and Technology>>>>> Multimedia>>>>ADSL
Here it is, but check the site for the graphics. BTW, there's an email address, too.

<<< Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Loop (ADSL) Development
NEC is contracted to supply a 300 customer pilot system for Telstra, which initially provides broadcast Pay TV Services, Pay Per View (PPV) and Video-On-Demand Services. Some of the objectives of this pilot are to determine customers' perception of quality of video services over ADSL, and to assess network integration, planning and operational issues.
It should be emphasised that the Pilot is not merely a trial of ADSL technologies (involving both 2Mb/s CAP and 6Mb/s DMT), but it is an implementation of an end-to-end networked solution, providing both point-to-multipoint broadcast services (e.g. Pay TV and PPV), and point-to-point interactive broadband services (e.g. VOD). The key elements of the Pilot are shown in Figure 2. It incorporates the following elements:
Multimedia Server System Workstation MPEG Encoders Real-time Encoders 2Mb/s MPEG 1 Encoders (Over MPEG 2 Transport) 6Mb/s MPEG 2 Encoders
SDH transport network Distribution Switch (2 Mb/s and 6 Mb/s) Level 1 Gateway (integrated in Distribution Switch) ADSL (Exchange Units and CPE Units) 2 Mb/s CAP 6 Mb/s DMT
Set Top Units (STU's) Access Network Management System.
DEMONSTRATIONS
Demonstrations of NEC's ADSL technology can be provided at our Plant & Technology Centre location in Mulgrave, Victoria by appointment.
FOR MORE INFORMATION Please contact : NEC Australia on 131 632 within Australia or e-mail adsl-info@nec.com.au
The Pilot has been dimensioned initially to support the following:
300 subscribers: - 100 using CAP ADSL and 200 using DMT ADSL. Storage of 50 video titles for subscriber access (average duration 110 minutes). Up to 63 x 2Mb/s simultaneous channels are supported by the Server System with the following breakdown:
Up to 59 x 2Mb/s channels for PPV and VOD services (from the Server System) up to 50 x VOD simultaneous channels up to 9 x PPV channels
3 x 2Mb/s channels for signalling and alarm transport to the head-end (one from each of the three IS-2000 Distribution Switches). 1 x reserved Application download channel (for downloading the Server Application to the STU)
7 x 2Mb/s channels for "live encoded" broadcast (from real-time 2 Mb/s Encoders). 7 x 6Mb/s channels for "live encoded" broadcast (from real-time 6 Mb/s Encoders)
