"What is the best investment house out there to meet my needs? Should I go to a discount brokerage house, and if so, what is the best one out there?"

I don't think you can really answer this question without deciding what's most important to you - commissions, service, etc.

I've been with Schwab ever since they started "e.Schwab" and I'm very happy. Great customer service. The commissions are a little high ($29.95 for stocks, about $39 and up for options) but I get fair and fast execution. It works for me as I'm primarily a "buy-and-holder", not a trader.

Also, if you drop greater than $100k into your account they tack on a number of freebies (Unlimited RTQuotes, H&Q Research, etc.).
