Premisys' New Integrated Access Solution Captures The Small-Business Market by Remote Control; New Managed SlimLine Unit Provides Carriers Advantages on the Front Line and Bottom Line

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 6, 1999--Premisys Communications (Nasdaq:PRMS) has scheduled the roll-out of its new Managed SlimLine(TM) Integrated Access Solution, a unit that provides telecommunications carriers a simple, cost-effective means to capture the large body of small businesses by remote control.

The Managed SlimLine Integrated Access Solution, which aggregates up to 24 voice lines and one high-speed data circuit on a single T1 line, can be remotely managed via Simple Network Management or Telnet protocols. Technicians can configure a new system, monitor its status, perform diagnostics and administer changes.

Premisys plans to begin making volume shipments of the Managed SlimLine in October. The price of the unit is $4,400.

"The Managed SlimLine unit allows carriers to capitalize on the small-business market by lowering operational costs, a result of improved network management, staff utilization and customer service," said Nicholas J. Williams, Premisys president and chief executive officer. "As a result, carriers can excel on the front line and the bottom line in this enormous, but often economically difficult to justify market.

"We designed the Managed SlimLine unit to help carriers compete in an environment where customers can be won or lost in minutes. It makes bundling voice and data services a successful strategy even in rapidly growing small-business markets where there's a constant demand for immediate service changes."

The company expects the Managed SlimLine solution to be especially valuable to competitive local exchange carriers, which often need to cover a lot of ground quickly and, most importantly, cost effectively. In particular, significant savings can accrue from the ability to have one trained technician set up and manage many aspects of the access network from a centrally located workstation. Because of its simple design, installers with relatively little training can deploy numerous units in a day and perform much of the field maintenance.

The Managed SlimLine(TM) is the entry-level component in the company's line of managed broadband and narrowband integrated access solutions. In the future, the company expects carriers to cascade units, creating very efficient, cost-effective access networks managed by the company's new AccessDirector(TM) Element Management System.

Premisys Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:PRMS), based in Fremont, pioneered development of integrated access solutions for telecommunications service providers. Today, Premisys, an ISO 9001 certified company, leads the industry worldwide with a growing family of access products, featuring its Integrated Multiple Access Communications Server (IMACS). Premisys' products allow service providers to quickly and cost effectively accommodate the growing demand from businesses for voice, data and video communications services.
