You can't tell from the FBI statistics what the sex of the offender was, only the sex of the victim.

Some statistics I found interesting in the DOJ study:

- Violence by intimates was 21% of the crime experienced by women, but only 2% of the crime experienced by men.

- Women are 84% of those seeking hospital treatment for an intentional injury caused by an intimate assailant.

- In 1996 nearly 3 out of 4 murders by an intimate were women.

- 3.7% of men murdered were killed by a spouse, 18.9% of women.

- More than half of inmates convicted for a violent crime against an intimate were using alcohol, drugs, or both at the time of the crime.

- The percentage of men killed by an intimate has declined dramatically over the statistical period, from 11.2% in 1976, to 5.4% in 1996 - but the percentage of women killed by an intimate is essentially unchanged - 31.3% in 1976, 29.0% in 1996.
