Patented Oxygenized Water Purification System Yields Dramatic Results in Drinking Water Treatment Study
PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 6, 1999--Dramatic results from a study released last week by an Oregon-based environmental firm show that cities in need of more drinking water can breathe easier, thanks to a revolutionary purification system that kills disease-causing bacteria naturally by using high levels of stable oxygen.

In a series of tests completed by EverClear Environmental Technologies in June, water from Oregon's Willamette River was treated using a patented electro-catalytic process. All but a small percentage of bacteria was killed by the treatment process, with the remaining falling well within accepted standards for municipal drinking water.

The patented purification system was developed by H2O Technologies of Seattle and licensed to EverClear Environmental Technologies Corp. of Milwaukie, Oregon. Because oxygen is a natural bactericide, the result is inexpensively-treated clean water that does not require the use of chemicals such as chlorine and its potentially cancer-causing byproduct -- tri-halomethanes.

''The applications of this clean, efficient treatment system are immense,'' said John Lorenz, president and CEO of EverClear Environmental Technologies.

''Cities and other large users of drinking water could employ this purification process to tap sources that previously were too expensive or impractical to purify through chemical means.''

He said the system also may appeal to smaller cities, water companies or public water districts that are seeking simple, low-cost, dependable water purification.

The purification system uses technology similar to what has been used for decades in other industries to apply coatings to metal. According to Lorenz, it is an economical, efficient alternative to traditional chemical or ozone water purification methods.

Here is how it works: Untreated water flows into contact with the proprietary electro-catalytic cell plates; electrical current to the plates alters oxygen molecules in the water, causing them to release hydrogen atoms. As hydrogen atoms are ''gassed off'' and released, the result is a higher concentration of oxygen molecules, which proves deadly to disease-causing bacteria.

Tests have successfully increased oxygen content to the maximum amount water can carry, rising from about five parts per million to about 45 parts per million. Independentlaboratory tests of oxygenized water have shown that the higher concentrations of oxygen kill pathogens such as salmonella, E.coli, staphylococcus, and listeria upon contact.
