Hi Carolyn, thanks for the link to the good summation on the present sorry condition re: The AVOID. IMHO it's mostly true except for some of what was Not Said about poor content; a "Look At The Rabbit" red flag.
YES WINS: In the Personal Finance Section the content is sometimes worse than if it were missing... 1) because the Co. news chosen for display by AVOID isn't always timely & complete with sometimes only articles with a one-way "slant" offered 2) Stats e.g. split dates, volumes and share prices on the quotes are too often incorrect (more than zero is too often) or helterskelter delays on quotes compared with Real Time. Playing BOOMShakaLakaLaka Refresh brings such things to light anywhere. And, of course, the article bullseyed the shabby treatment of customers, so sadly true. Why even go into the state of the message boards; AVOID kills the goose that lays the golden egg with it's TOS and general bad vibe. It wants to control, then abuses the crew and lets go the helm til the cabinboy grabs it....otleymay oolfay and the eetstray forums are subject to AVOID's TOS as are it's own...and looking at all of 'em from being used to SI is like a view of the slums from the terrace of the penthouse. Bad Business.

But gotta admit a NO to: I don't think quality of content was looked into well enough from a savings angle, though; and from the range of content available. It's like, w/ me & most our stockworkplace is the internet and once that's done I get off & go do something else...but I know plenty nice
no-brainer fast access sites on AVOID I can fully relax with when I'm hovering in a holding pattern with my own stocks prices under the microscope, know what I mean? Like when it's not ripe for BOOMShakaLakaLaka Refresh yet. Or for when I'm doing DD and get plain bored with it but haven't finished so I don't want to get off yet; just need a lil break from dry stuff and sifting through arguments on treads to get to the Meat and some new links. There's plenty of good stuff for relax on AVOID, and it's not a good idea to forget that this pleases the bulk of that ISP's targeted customers. Their money's as good as anybodys....there was a snobby condescension in the article about the Average Consumers who want it all made easy that I didn't much care for.So what's wrong with wanting access and navigation made easy, it's a pain in the @$$ even when it's made as easy as it's possible to make it! It's GREAT such big numbers of midrange newbies finally are interested in hooking up to dotcom; it's thanks to them Our Internet Stock Kites fly so high. It's like The Old Folks say, forgetting who butters your bread isn't a wise move & that's applicable here IMHO...whether making reference to AVOID or to almost any other Internet Company.
The businessweek online subscription there alone, plus other online financial & news e-zines plus access to the no-brainer fun or ladies interest areas....so many of these sites would give less and charge for what AVOID members look at for free, if accessed thru other ISP's.
I can say firsthand that what I read on there would cost me more than what I pay for the service...I also have MSN as an ISP because my wallet might suffer from an internet breakdown; plus AVOID is faster access during the day while MSN gets fast at night when that slows down. Yep, I'm used to 'em that way, it works out.
AnEEway, that article was right-on mostly, but it missed the boat on The Very Next Phase & A Big Reason For The Swelling Numbers Of Folks Online which IMHO are muy importante. Veeeeeerrrrry Interrressting.
Thanks again for showing it to me.
909s2U2,
Joanie
