Are you saying that the jury didn't know what they were doing?? Or were they intimidated and coerced by the American Gestapo??
As for first aid, you're absolutely right. Who knows what was going through their heads and if they can be faulted for anything, not applying immediate life-saving procedures would be it. They must have had some basic first-aid equipment, though they probably didn't have a medical person on their team. It is also possible that they may have left their medical kit at their hide site (assuming they were on foot patrol from their temporary base), as I can't believe they had set up their "hide" in sight of civilian residences.
But the border patrol is cited as promising to have a medevac there in 15 minutes, but took 38. Did that play a part?
But would first aid have saved him? Who knows? I haven't read the case file and testimony. (and apparently neither have you).
