<<You think there's more competition in the fo than in the erp/backoffice?>>

No, and certainly not in 1999. But there are many more competitors in f/o than at a comparable stage in the erp growth curve. F/o is just more fragmented. I also agree that the f/o market will be bigger than erp, just add in all the service businesses. There's a ton of great opportunities in f/o.

But I think you're overstating the competition that SAP faced. When they first ramped up R/3 in the US they caught the wave of US companies reengineering, while their competitors were SSA (weak and AS/400), Pansophic (weaker and also AS/400), JDEC (again AS/400) and Baan (Unix and number 2 by default). Their competitors weakness is what allowed them to establish such a dominant position, imho. Even then, the market was cruising along so well that the companies drafting SAP had a nice run.

Again, I'm long Sebl and way long f/o in general, but I'm always careful with the Sebl coolaid.

Vntv, starting to get comical. They still don't know who they are and what they've got. All their talk about changing their culture is a waste of time. I still think it's an asset that IBM could use and trash all the other stuff they've got.
