THE X-STREAM NETWORK: Free Internet users seek more value with X-StreamailPlus

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Story Filed: Tuesday, July 06, 1999 1:44 PM EST

JUL 6, 1999, M2 Communications - London -- The X-Stream Network, the UK's first FREE ISP, announced today that 5,000 new users signed up for X-StreamailPlus within just a couple of hours of launch last month, indicating that UK Internet users are looking for more than just another 'me too' Internet service.

X-Stream is working in partnership with Virtualplus to increase the service it offers to small business and home office users. This agreement means X-Stream can offer users the dual functionality of a fax machine and a voicemail system on one phone number, for free. This surge of new users proves that Internet users are seeking more value from their free ISPs and X-Stream believes that it is the only free ISP where services such as X-StreamMailPlus are offered free of charge.

The X-Stream Network was the first company to offer free Internet access in the UK, followed by pioneering FREE 0800 calls for users when accessing the Internet. Over 400,000 current subscribers of X-Stream, as well as future X-Stream subscribers will be able to take advantage of a free voicemail and fax facility directly to their X-StreaMail account. Every user will receive X-StreamailPlus, a Unified Messaging service with a unique phone number allocated on subscription to the service. This number will be configured to accept both voicemails and faxes and will then deliver these messages to the user's e-mail inbox via audio and TIF "Fax Files" respectively. As with all of X-Stream's services, X-StreamailPlus is absolutely free to users.

Paul Myers, managing director of X-Stream, said, "If users are serious about high quality Internet services with added-value features, they know that they're not going to get it from a retailer or a bank. X-Stream's 400,000 users are using our service because we are a dedicated Internet company and as such our primary focus is on delivering the highest quality service with more utilities and greater functionality."

Christopher Sukornyk, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of X-Stream comments,

"X-Stream is delivering cutting edge products and services in the most user-friendly package possible. We are using convergence technologies to expand on the services we offer our users -- to which X-StreamailPlus is the latest new addition."

X-StreamailPlus' unified messaging is a

cost-effective option for those individuals that are still unfamiliar with unified messaging and is stunningly simple to use. There's no additional software to purchase, no additional equipment needed and no special computer skills necessary in order to use it. X-StreamailPlus' unified messaging is designed to eliminate the hassles of having to collect different message types in different locations. The customer only has to check one location for both messages and can listen or view them at their discretion. This is an invaluable asset for small companies or remote workers.

A FREE X-StreaMail account can be set up at mail.x-stream.co.uk and is available as part of The X-Stream Network's FREE Internet service.
