Harry, This sounds cynical but:

...Yahoo Kicks Off Net Earnings Reports
PALO ALTO, Calif. (Reuters) - Yahoo! Inc. kicks off the earnings season for Internet companies Wednesday when the largest search engine reports second quarter results, which analysts believe may be stronger than expected........

<snip>

''We believe Yahoo will have another strong quarter,'' wrote Merrill Lynch & Co. Internet analyst Henry Blodget in a note to clients last week.

He recommended that investors focus on revenue, earnings per share, pageviews and operating margin. Blodget noted that he expects $103 million in revenue for the quarter.

In addition, Blodget is calling for 305 million average daily page views, up 30 percent from the first quarter. That includes pageviews for Geocities, which Yahoo is in the process of acquiring.

<snip>

==========================================

If pageview is so important in impressing the Street as well as advertisers, all yhoo needs to do is to have a few PCs running a special Java code that access various yhoo sites every second of every hour, around the clock for the entire quarter.

60x60x24x90=7.776M page hits per qtr./per PC.

All TK has to do is to put ten such PCs in his basement to get him the 30% increase in pageviews this quarter.

I know, I know, it sounds very cynical but who knows if it is not happening already. Who is checking the authenticity of any "virtual" data that is released by these internet companies?
