Yellow Book USA, the oldest and largest competitive yellow pages publisher in the United States, today announced that the company has acquired Yellow Page One, Inc., publisher of nine yellow pages directories in the Chicago suburban area.

The acquisition of Yellow Page One is consistent with Yellow Book's strategy to build the dominant, competitive yellow pages company east of the Mississippi. With this acquisition, approximately one in three Americans east of the Mississippi now use Yellow Book directories.

Headquartered in Mt. Prospect, Illinois, Yellow Page One's directories reach some of the most affluent markets in Chicago, including: Crystal Lake/Barrington, Central Lake County, North Shore, Arlington, Des Plaines/Park Ridge, Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates, Bensenville/Elmhurst, Wheaton/St. Charles, and the East West Corridor of Chicago. According to Harry Dubbs, founder of Yellow Page One, ''We are thrilled to become part of Yellow Book USA, one of the leading directory publishers in the nation. I am particularly happy about the stability and career development opportunities now available to our people.''

Established in 1930, Yellow Book USA has grown continually since it was acquired in a management-led buyout in conjunction with Veronis, Suhler & Associates, Inc. (VS&A Communications Partners II, L.P.), the leading investment banking firm for the media and communications industry. In April, 1999, Yellow Book USA acquired Directory Publishers, Inc. in Georgia. In July, 1998, it acquired Southern Directory Company Inc., publishing 29 directories in five southeastern states, and in December 1997, Yellow Book acquired R.H. Donnelley's proprietary operations publishing 43 yellow pages directories in five Mid-Atlantic states and Washington D.C. As a result, the company will have approximately $300 million in revenues in 1999, circulation of over 19 million, and more than 1400 employees in 32 offices. Yellow Book publishes community directories, wide-area directories, county directories, city directories, a Business-to-Business directory, and college and university directories.
