Well if Europa will be offering free internet and also pay for surfers' local telephone rates - it only means one thing: The free ISPs are willing to inccur additionnal costs in order to obtain large user audiences. For America in the futur when free ISPs are in full competition it probably means offering free sponsored cybermall $$$coupons for futur consumer purchases - the more you surf - the more $$$coupons you receive - the more freebies you can buy at a designated webmall. This way the free ISPs can compete to increase their user base which in return attract bigger national advertising accounts.
Yes there is a long way to go with free ISP and their marketing tactics. We the users in this case WIN and so the the advertisers.
