Brumar, you were initially correct when you say:

You were right on target my good man. Then you went and changed your mind based on some false premise that others decided.
Your own instincts and reasoning abilities were exactly right.
Brumar everything I know about the groups that oppose abortion have always believed that the unborn child possessed a soul, that is what made it a living human being. The evidence that this understanding existed even before the 60's was clear and convincing, and certainly more widespread..... is the simple fact that abortions were not legal. On this, the nation's original instincts were also correct!
As to the passage I quoted look at it again Bruce,
As it relates to miscarriage. The miscarriage happened in the case that mischief followed....Where there was no mischief....there was no miscarriage. And even in that case punishment was to be meted out accordingly.
Exod 21:22-23
22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
So that her fruit depart from her.
This means that the physical violence between the men directly or indirectly, caused this woman to go into premature labor. But it did not cause her to miscarry....Miscarry specifically means that the child did not survive. She may have prematurely delivered the unborn child...but it caused the child no harm.
The fruit is her unborn child. If this fruit departs from her (This premature child)...and yet is not harmed (no mischief), then the child was born and continued to live outside the womb.
23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
This scripture states that if the unborn child did in fact die or was so badly injured, or was unable to survive out of the womb, (mischief did follow....miscarriage) then the one who caused this was to also lose his life.
This unborn child is by all biological and Biblical accounts....a living, breathing soul! And you were exactly right when you once were of the opinion that this child was a unique individual.
To be sure that this yet unborn child is a living soul;
Jer 1:5
5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
Luke 1:15
15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
Also consider what happened when Elizabeth was carrying John the Baptist in her womb. Mary, the mother of Jesus, upon hearing that she had just conceived, by divine intervention, Jesus the Christ, she went to visit her cousin Elizabeth. Remember Mary had just conceived!
Luke 1:36-41
36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
39 And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;
40 And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit:
Think about that Brumar...this yet unborn child leaped in his mother's womb...and that is only half of the truth...why did he leap? He did so because he felt the awesome presence of this newly conceived soul in the womb of Mary.
Brumar, if you don't mind me saying so, I believe that somewhere deep within the cavern of your own soul, you know this to be a God given truth. I believe that you struggle with it only because of popular opinion. Let it go my friend and be at peace with your original instincts, they were true to you.
Just a little side bar. About a week ago I was talking with a very close friend. He was torn between 2 family members and their little differences,(not so little to them) he said he hated being in the middle. After some discussion he decided that the only way he could get out of the middle, and have some peace within,was to move to the side of right. Yesterday he called me and told me that once he did that, he was able to be of valuable help...to all the parties concerned.
