[Amati Tunnelvision]

Pat,

I think we would all agree that we are a "bit partial"
in our coverage towards Amati and their hopes of $$growing
and making us all millionaires.

But, maybe it is time we step back and assess the market, the
products and see who is strategically advanatged short term and
long term.

What brought this up? A number of things:
------------------------------------------
* extended time for true RBOC ADSL deployment
* is cap an early winner for '97
* looking at the Pairgain increase..maybe HDSL will be the
early winner
* are we being held "hostage" by Motorola with chip deployment?
* is the "business model" a winner for Amati?

Knowing what we know, are we on the "right horse"? Is it possible
for you to talk with Amati and get their insight on the myriad of
solution in the MCI trial activity. I'm not asking them to criticize the other competitors. Perhaps ask them "where is Amati stategically positioned better than others" and their confidence of that going forward? (a nice easy question...)

Maybe I'm showing my impatience with the myriad of "what if's" for the
next 2 years...let alone the recently disappointing stock movement.

I would encourage everyone examine others as well as Amati. Much could
happen between now and "xdsl reality".

Have a good weekend,

Bob
