(COMTEX) B: Dell To Advise George W. Bush B: Dell To Advise George W. Bush AUSTIN, Texas, Jul 07, 1999 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- Republican presidential frontrunner George W. Bush today named Michael Dell, chairman of Dell Computer Corp., the nation's largest direct seller of computers, to chair his advisory council on high technology. Other advisers on the nine-member panel include Tom Engibous, president of Texas Instruments Inc., and Robert Herbold, executive vice president of Microsoft Corp. The Texas governor has called for freeing Internet sales from duties and tariffs, creating a permanent federal research and development tax credit, and pledged not to raise federal personal or corporate taxes. Bush has proposed intensifying efforts to combat intellectual piracy and called for lifting the cap on the number of high-skilled workers allowed into the country under so-called H-1B visas. Also named to the advisory council were James Barksdale, managing partner at The Barksdale Group; Carol Bartz, chief executive officer of Autodesk Inc.; John Chambers, president and CEO of Cisco Systems; Richard Egan, founder of EMC Corp.; Ray Lane, president of Oracle; and Steve Papermaster, head of Agillon.
