IBM's 401k does allow IBM stock as an option. Orders to transfer
existing balances must be entered by 1:00pm EST. I "play" IBM's
stock swings with my 401k account at IBM, keeping the money
in a short-term bond fund when not in IBM stock. It's tough
to do when you must put in the order 3 hrs before the market closes.
So far I'm 6 for 6 in successful trades in the last few years,
not as big of gains as just holding the stock, but also much less
risk. I'm beating the S&P500 by quite a bit, and can make money
even if the stock is flat long-term, as long as it moves in
nice, big sine waves... :-)

I just sold my IBM last Wed into the Greenspan euphoria - a gamble,
I had to make the trade before he announced anything! Am up
27% on the year, in 2 trades, may just wait until any Y2K
despair wipes out the market before I go into IBM stock again,
we'll see...
