The question remains, do the funds get an early look, and if so, by how much?

The additions and deletions to the Russell 2000 index have now been finalized, as of July 1. But only subscribers to the Russell 2000 index calculations have received the results. For the rest of the investing public, the final list will not be made public until July 8. However, for the purposes of playing the Russell 2000 addition, the play is now over. If you picked any of the nine funds on our list for this play, sell them to the index funds. After all, you've had a nice return of over 20% in just three weeks, compared to the Russell 2000's 5.3% return.
