PiMac,
Great leadership is not exclusive to Mental Illness. Clinton thinks more objectively from his affliction. The public demands show; Clinton is only responding. His problems as afflicted can be controlled; his talents as President are unavailable elsewhere.

1)Yes, great leaders can have a mental illness. The examples mentioned of Lincoln and Churchill do not compare favorably with Clinton. Their illness was contained within themselves, whereas Clinton's problem was expressed "into" unsuspecting, unwilling females.

2)Clinton's possible disassociation of emotions from situational reality due to his alleged affliction could have possibly led to a clearer perspective of the problems he was to solve. But after saying that, his behavior in any case is not to be condoned.

3)There was an article that called Clinton a "sex" addict who should seek treatment. (Unfortunately, I have been unable to relocate it. The article mentioned the possibility of substance abuse. This would fit with some of the reports presented here and elsewhere.) Whether Clinton has received treatment is not known, but I doubt it.

4)What the country needs in a President is a good steward. Of course, Gore could have served as President through the balance of Clinton's term. It would have been interesting to see the contrast between the two. There are others, but Gore was next in line.
