Wren--

Sam Zell seems to be going several different
directions at the same time, what with becoming
the president of DAVL (a pay phone company), and
moving in a different direction with the purchase
of Lexford (see BARRONS this week) with his
apartment company.

But I would not bet against him. He is very
unconventional but a real manager of his
businesses. Probably the pension funds are
tired of no movement in the group after the
little rebound this year. Pension funds
typically go the wrong direction all the time,
adding to an asset class just at the high and
moving out of another just at the low.

Remember, they answer to a board that knows
little and wants to be in the things that have
done well lately, not looking to the future.

The "dogs of the Dow" still work pretty well, buying
what is currently out of favor--not withstanding
the last couple of years where it has been unproductive.

The South and the REIT's will rise again. When is
the only question.
