Lou Ross, Company Chairman & CEO of National Scientific Corp., Reports on Patent Grant Wednesday, July 7, 1999 12:08 PM

PHOENIX, July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- National Scientific Corp. (OTC Bulletin Board: NSCT) (NSC) is pleased to announce it has been granted a patent (#5912481) on the Hetrojunction Bipolar Transistor (HBT) having wide bandgap, low interdiffusion base-emitter junction.

The main advantages of this HBT over other Bipolar Transistors include:

1. Approximately three times faster
2. Noise about 2 dB less
3. Increased gain by a factor of five

These goals can be optimized with emphasis on certain applications. For example, in RF applications noise is the most important parameter. In digital applications, maximum operating frequency is the most critical. Also, the methods should significantly increase the FAB yield and reliability; NSC will provide different design examples for the various applications. As on all of the patent application devices, this HBT has been simulated and/or modeled to meet or exceed NSC performance claims.

Lou Ross states that out of the five projects currently being developed by NSC, the Bipolar Transistor is considered one of the company's 'Crown Jewels.' With even a small piece of the vast demand for transistors, the estimated potential revenues it will generate in the next couple of years are in the millions. This first patent will be the kick-start to a very aggressive marketing effort. Currently, steps are being taken to introduce this product to several companies that have expressed interest.

Ross concluded by saying it is quite likely NSC will be granted patents for the 'Memory Cell' (SRAM) and the Monolithic Inductor within the next few months. Progress on the Dielectric Resonator is moving forward as well. Ross said his goal is to have major contracts in hand before the year 2000 that will provide National Scientific with a strong base and substantial ramp-up of revenues.
