I SEE A BIG SOMETHING IS FORMING BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS SOMETHING IS YET ...
(1) COREL, which NOVELL owns about 10-15%, is teaming up with NetScape, and PerfectOffice tries to melt into the NetScape (2) NetScape is teaming up with Novell, it tries to melt it's poduct into Novell's IntranetWare and making ExtranetWare possible (3) Oracle is forming expanded alliance with Novell (4) SunMicro's Java is part of NetScape, Oracle,Novell, Corel's product (5) IBM, SunMicro, Oracle, HP, CPQ are all adopting NDS as part of their product (6) Even MSFT is buying Novell's dictionary to make their product better (7) One of the greatest figure in INternet and Java world, Dr. Schmidt is coming to NOVELL's town to lead
All these indicate one thing: NOVELL's products are being recognized by the industry finally.
With Dr. E. Schmidt as a leader, I bet Novell is and will commit itself to be the INTERNET/INTRANET/EXTRANET leader now and into the 21 th centry.
History always repeats itself in the stock market, any company tries to evolve itself from one old fashion type into a new type must go through what NOVELL goes through, it is a long and painful journey but there is no short cut because short cut will only promise short life since the foundation will be thin.
Look CPQ, look Oracle, Look SunMicro, Look CA, look IBM, look AMD they all went through the re-birth pain, as long as they can come out with new products, this industry is very forgiving.
Let us give Dr. Schmidt and his future a chance, we know it is a right choice because the market says so, we know it is a right choice because Internet/intranet/extranet is the future and he knows so much about them, he has to be a better person, I only hope he has an open mind because smart people intends to close their ear often, but the way he gets ahead in SunMicro, I don't think he is a close mind person.
We must give the BOD some credit because they have picked someone whom none of us on these SI threads predicted, if we ousted them then I don't think our misery will possibily end soon.
Let us give them blessing because if they prosper, we profit!
Good luck to us all.
