Ed, This is a basic explanation on moving averages. iqc.com It tends to be a trend following technical trading system that will capture a good portion of the move when a stock is trending. It is not so great when a stock is stuck in a range. You need an oscillator for that kind of environment. The choice of averages to use is up to you, but 5 and 20 is popular choice.
