A small correction here. Five Ethernet cards running at 10 MB/sec consumes 50 MB/sec. One SCSI subsystem which supports up to six hard drives would take up 40 MB/sec. That sort of occupancy (75%) on a single PCI bus is definitely going to cause performance problems.

How often will data rates like these ever be an issue, given the much slower disc head seek times?
